Ali Cowley

Ali Cowley - AnimatorBackground: Ali is a New Zealand born Samoan who was raised in Māngere, South Auckland. He is a Creative Artist trained in traditional character animation but has found these core skills have given him a foundation to work across various media in the Creative Industry.

Ali joined the Pacific Kids' Learning Team to help create more digital resources for the wider Pasifika community, to enable Pacific language access and immersion for our children.

Former Bro’Town Animation Director, Ali has worked on Warner Bros and Disney assignments as well as coordinating and facilitating Anim8’s animation production training programme in association with Auckland based South Seas Animation School.

Ali currently teaches Art and Design to Game Students completing their Bachelor of Creative Technologies at the Media Design School in Auckland. This encompasses drawing techniques, Concept art, Character Design, Painting, Sculpting and Life drawing. Game Art is so popular that his work has sent him to teach Concept Art in Sante Fe, New Mexico and San Diego.

Ali enjoys teaching these skills but also finds it rewarding to visit Local Schools to introduce students to these new Art forms.

Ali’s versatile Art experience has led him to Freelance on Storyboarding contracts, Animated TVC’s and Music videos, curated and exhibited in an Art Exhibition, Designed the “Play Kindly” App for young Polynesian Parents and Directed his first short documentary “Meet Munch Jr” about his son Nikau on the autism spectrum ( Nikau is also very talented and is working as a production assistant on our Pacific Digital Stories project).

Ali’s passion projects are what drives him and he is researching Pasifika focused storytelling through short film development with game engine technology.
